I love it when my favorite bloggers share their finds. It’s a great way to discover new products or services and I’ve found more than a few great things that way. So, I thought it might be fun if I did a favorites list too! Let me know what you think. If you enjoy this post I’ll try and make this a monthly thing. :)
I recently had the opportunity to try out Bestowed, which is a subscription service that delivers full-sized, healthy snacks to your doorstep every month for just $19. I like this concept because it makes it easy to try new snacks without having to buy an entire package of something you may not like. (Case in point: last month I bought a box of coconut Health Warrior Chia Bars based upon positive Amazon reviews…and I hated them.)
My Bestowed box arrived last week and was filled with goodies for the entire family, including:[column col="1/2"]
- Unreal Peanut Butter Cups
- Bakery on Main Carrot Cake Oatmeal
- Herbal Philosophy Feel Beautiful Tea
- Santa Barbara Coconut Almond Bar
- R.W. Garcia MixtBag Yellow & Blue Corn Tortilla Chips
- Funley’s Wholly Granolly Clusters in Peanut Butter & Double Chocolate Chip
Since each item was full-size there was enough for everyone to sample things. We all liked the peanut butter cups and coconut almond bar, while I liked the carrot cake oatmeal and the munchkin enjoyed the double chocolate chip granola clusters. We’ll definitely be replacing my husband’s favorite Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups with the healthier Unreal Peanut Butter Cups and I’m pretty sure I’ll be adding the Santa Barbara bar to our on-the-go snack rotation. The other items won’t be going on our purchasing list, but I’m so glad we had the chance to try them. Not only did we learn something but it was fun sampling new foods. If you are on the lookout for new, healthy snacks Bestowed is a fantastic way to let nutrition experts send tasty options right to your door. I think we’ll be signing up for the service and if you want to also I have a promo code for you! Use the discount code HELLOYUM11 to get your first box for $10 instead of $19. (Code expires 3/15/14).
For years we have been using (and loving) Alton Brown’s Perfect Popcorn recipe, but because we didn’t have a popcorn popper we were stuck using a large metal bowl covered with aluminum foil. It worked, but it was a pain – and that’s the last thing you want when you’re looking for a relaxing movie night at home. We found the answer to our popcorn prayers a few weeks ago when I just happened to see the Whirly Pop and at shop on Church Street in downtown Burlington, VT. Talk about a lucky purchase! It is so easy to use and produces perfectly popped popcorn every time. We’ve enjoyed many a popcorn fueled winter movie night since I brought this baby home.
Lipstick Queen in Medieval
I love red lipstick but it can be tough to find the right shade – especially if you’re mostly looking for an everyday I only had time for lipstick but want to look great color option. That’s where Lipstick Queen’s lipstick in “Medieval” comes in. Described as a “red anyone can wear,” I learned about this shade on Lisa Eldridge’s beauty blog, where she described it as giving your lips a “just been eating berries” stain. I have to agree with her. It’s a lightweight, smooth color that gives you a healthy glow and can be put on moments before rushing out the door. I think has even helped keep my lips in top condition during these cold winter months thanks to generous amounts of moisturizing vitamin E. It’s become my go-to daily lipstick and of I want to dress it up for the evening I’ll wear it on top of M.A.C. lipstick in “Craving” – the two shades look fantastic together!
Last week I bought a box of Waba Kinetic Sand during a visit to Buttered Noodles, a local Vermont toy store. This stuff is seriously cool. It has the texture of the best California beach sand, with just the right amount of moisture for building sand castles or molding neat shapes. It doesn’t dry out and it sticks together in a way that almost makes it look like it’s moving. For instance, if you grab a hunk of kinetic sand and then let it fall out of your hand in pieces, it doesn’t come apart in clumps like normal sand. Instead, each grain kinda sticks to the other ones and all of the sand sort of moves together while it falls. (See our Instagram video here.)
The munchkin LOVES this sand and literally wants to spend about an hour playing with it every day. I put it in a big plastic tub and he happily buries his cars in it, makes shapes with LEGOs, builds mini sand castles or just watches how the sand moves while it falls out of his hands. The sand is very easy to clean up so it’s perfect for indoor winter or rainy day play. Just think of all the possibilities for playing with this stuff!
That’s it for our February finds! I’d love to hear about your favorite discoveries in recent weeks. :)
