7 Fun Halloween Songs for Kids

Halloween Songs for Kids

This weekend I found seven fun Halloween songs set to the tunes of nursery-rhymes and Christmas songs. And while it does feel a bit strange to sing about how “The Great Pumpkin is Coming to Town,” it’s also nice to find new songs that I already know the melodies for. :) The songs aren’t too scary for young toddlers and some even have actions that go along with the lyrics.

Sources: Perpetual Preschool (lots and lots of songs on this site), Everything Preschool & Preschool Education (many songs here too).

1. The Twelve Days of Halloween

(Sung to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”)

On the first day of Halloween my true love gave to me… An owl in a old oak tree.
On the second day of Halloween my true love gave to me….2 black cats, and an owl in a old oak tree.
3 pumpkins glowing…
4 witches brewing…
5 candy corn…
6 scary costumes…
7 bats a flying…
8 spiders webbing…
9 ghost a’haunting…
10 scarecrows scaring…
11 werewolves howling…
12 banshees

2. Pumpkin, Pumpkin On the Ground

(Sung to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)

Pumpkin pumpkin on the ground
How’d you get so big and round
Planted as a seed so small
Now you are a great big ball
Pumpkin pumpkin on the ground
How’d you get so big and round

3. Here We Come to Trick or Treat

(Sung to the tune of “Mary Had A Little Lamb”)

Here we come to trick or treat, trick or treat, trick or treat.
Here we come to trick or treat, knocking on your door.
Please give us some candy sweet, candy sweet, candy sweet.
Please give us some candy sweet, and we will say Thank You!

4. Three Little Witches

(Sung to the tune of “Three Little Indians”)

One little, two little, three little witches. (Hold up 1,2,3 fingers)
Fly over haystacks, fly over ditches. (Make flying motion with hands)
Fly over moonbeams without any hitches. (Make flying motion with opposite hand.)
Hey, Ho, Halloween Night! (Clap)

5. Five Crows All Shiny Black

(Sung to the tune of “Five Green and Speckled Frogs”)

5 crows, all shiny black,
Sat on a scarecrow’s back,
Eating the most delicious corn, CAW! CAW!

Scarecrow, he shouted BOO!
1 crow, away she flew,
Then there were 4 black shiny crows (just 4!)

Repeat for crows 4, 3, 2, 1.

6. If You’re A Monster and You Know It

(To the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”)

If you’re a monster and you know it, wave your arms.
If you’re a monster and you know it, wave your arms.
If you’re a monster and you know it,
then your arms will surely show it.
If you’re a monster and you know it, wave your arms.

(You can pick other Halloween creatures and motions too. e.g. If you’re a dragon and you know it give a roar, etc.)

7. Great Pumpkin Is Coming to Town

(To the tune of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town)

Oh, you’d better not shriek,
You’d better not groan,
You’d better not howl,
You’d better not moan,
Great Pumpkin is coming to town!

He’s gonna find out
From folks that he meets
Who deserves tricks
And who deserves treats.
Great Pumpkin is coming to town!

He’ll search in every pumpkin patch,
Haunted houses far and near
To see if you’ve been spreading gloom,
Or bringing lots of cheer.

Oh, you’d better not shriek,
You’d better not groan,
You’d better not howl,
You’d better not moan,
Great Pumpkin is coming to town!
